Hass Stadium will be sporting various shades of pink Friday night as the Austin Packers football team and parents raise awareness and support for The Hormel Institute’s world-renowned breast cancer research.
The Austin Packers’ 3rd annual “Pink Out Night” football game is this Friday against the Owatonna Huskies in Austin, starting with a pregame tailgate party from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the stadium’s east side at Wescott Field.

Dr. Ted Hinchcliffe, leader of the “Cellular Dynamics” research section at The Hormel Institute, will speak at the tailgate party about the Institute’s research and how the community’s support is vital for ensuring progress continues to be made. Pulled pork sandwiches, hamburgers and hot dogs, along with chips and beverages, will be available for purchase.

Raffle prizes – including Austin Bruins hockey tickets and various Austin Packers items, among other gifts – will be drawn at the end of the first, second and third quarters during the football game. Donations also will be accepted throughout the game by the players’ parents who are coordinating the fundraiser.

A limited number of T-shirts – “Join the Fight Under the Lights” – for this year’s “Pink Out Night” also will be available for purchase Friday at the game.

Since 2012, “Pink Out Night” has raised nearly $2,500 for The Hormel Institute’s cutting-edge breast cancer research. All proceeds from “Pink Out Night” go 100 percent toward directly funding breast cancer research at The Hormel Institute, and the amount raised Friday will count toward the Institute’s 2015 “Paint the Town Pink” initiative in February.

Everyone attending Friday’s game is encouraged to wear pink to honor those who are battling breast cancer and those who lost their life to the devastating disease. It also will show support for The Hormel Institute’s breast cancer research and raise awareness about the importance of early detection to save lives.
