Earlier deadline this year for undergraduate college students interested in 10-week, paid opportunity
Applications are due in full by March 1 for college undergraduates interested in the 10-week, paid summer internship offered by The Hormel Institute, University of Minnesota-Mayo Clinic.
Items must be postmarked no later than March 1 for The Hormel Institute’s Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (S.U.R.E.) internship program that runs from June to August (exact dates have yet to be determined). The annual program matches each intern with a scientist as a mentor for a summer of laboratory work in one of the Institute’s 12 medical research sections.
In 2012, The Hormel Institute, which conducts world-renowned research focused on discoveries leading to the prevention and control of cancer, hosted nine S.U.R.E. intern students.
“We work extensively at The Hormel Institute to educate and develop students seeking to enter careers in science,” said Dr. Zigang Dong, Executive Director. “The S.U.R.E. program provides college students with critical and direct experience that will help open doors for them to greater opportunities.”
Applications can be submitted by college undergraduates entering his or her sophomore, junior or senior year in fall 2013 and majoring in a science or medical-related field. Applicants must submit a completed application form, résumé, official college transcript and at least two letters of recommendation.
Each year, The Hormel Institute selects undergraduate students to work in the S.U.R.E. program on research projects that expand their knowledge of basic research. They also learn about equipment and techniques not generally available in undergraduate academic programs.
Students are selected based on their high level of academic achievements and their plans to pursue careers in science or medically related fields.
