Eighth annual campaign aims to raise $300,000 and growing
This week marks the beginning of the official 2018 Paint the Town Pink campaign, which runs from January 27-February 11. Communities all across the area are holding events to raise money to support The Hormel Institute’s cutting-edge cancer research. Paint the Town Pink started in Austin in 2011 with the first Paint the Rink Pink game and has since grown to include Rose Creek, Adams, Brownsdale, and several more communities throughout southeastern Minnesota and Iowa.
Many of the annual events are back again this year such as the Plunging for Pink polar plunge, Fishing for a Cure ice fishing tournament, and Paint the Rink Pink hockey game. New events range from swing dancing to scrapbooking, ice golf, a demo derby and more. There is truly something for everyone, so from PTTP - find something that looks fun and join in! Events also happen year-round so if you can’t make it to an event in the next couple weeks keep an eye out for something Paint the Town Pink happening in the spring, summer, or fall.
Cancer touches everyone and the money raised by these events goes directly to researchers at The Hormel Institute who are working hard every day to find new ways to prevent and control cancer. The multicolored flags in front of Mayo Clinic Health System Austin are symbolic that this initiative supports all cancers/all colors of flags. While breast research may be the target, the discoveries can often be applied to other cancers. Since 2011 Paint the Town Pink has raised nearly $1.2 million with last year’s total topping $306,000. Thanks to the generosity of The Hormel Foundation, 100% of every dollar donated to The Hormel Institute goes directly toward cancer research. This year’s Paint the Town Pink campaign goal is "$300,000 and growing" - and with your help it will happen!
